WVU Tech earns seven podiums at Fall Frenzy
COLUMBIA, Ky. — WVU Tech opened the 2026-27 season with seven individual podium finishes at the two-day 14th Annual Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy Invitational, hosted by Lindsey Wilson at Holloway Natatorium.
Jacobo Ramos Pinzón led the Golden Bears with three top-three finishes, including a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, while Neda Vaicaite reached the podium three times and earned an NAIA “B” qualifying standard in the 50-yard freestyle.
Ramos Pinzón earned WVU Tech’s first event win of the season in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:58.69 to win by one-hundredth of a second.
He added a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke at 59.70 and placed third in the 100 freestyle in 48.39. Ramos Pinzón also finished 10th in the 50 freestyle at 23.07, giving him three podium finishes across his four individual events.
Vaicaite also put together a three-podium weekend. She finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.50, reaching the NAIA “B” qualifying standard in the season opener.
She followed with runner-up finishes in both backstroke events, clocking 1:02.18 in the 100 backstroke and 2:14.47 in the 200 backstroke. Vaicaite added a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle at 57.40.
Oleguer Siscart Muntane gave WVU Tech its seventh individual podium finish, placing third in the 200 butterfly at 2:14.20. He also finished ninth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.10.
Lorenzo Silva added two top-10 finishes in the distance freestyle events, placing sixth in the 1,650 freestyle at 19:34.62 and ninth in the 500 freestyle at 5:32.01.
Bryson George finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:06.51, while Malachi Smith placed 13th in both the 50 freestyle at 23.50 and the 100 freestyle at 51.93. Brady Bowie also earned a 13th-place finish in the 100 backstroke at 1:02.26.
On the women’s side, freshman Mallory Parks competed alongside Vaicaite in the breaststroke events. Parks placed 12th in the 200 breaststroke at 3:22.47 and 14th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:31.87.
The WVU Tech men finished fifth in the five-team field with 304 points. The Golden Bear women, represented by Vaicaite and Parks, also finished fifth with 74 points.
