PRESS RELEASE

ATHENS, WV — Gov. Patrick Morrisey has appointed Mary Catherine Funk Tuckwiller, an attorney with Dinsmore image& Shohl LLP, to the Concord University Board of Governors.
“As someone who works professionally in education law at the K–12 level, serving an institution with such a rich legacy of preparing educators feels like a natural fit,” Tuckwiller said, welcoming the governor’s appointment. “I am excited for the opportunity to support Concord’s mission, advocate for its students, and contribute to the continued success of this outstanding institution.”
Tuckwiller began her career as a teacher and dedicates her legal practice to education law. She advises board of education clients on employee discipline, both before and during the grievance process. She provides guidance and training on special education issues, particularly IEP drafting and compliance, compensatory services, and meeting FAPE requirements.
Tuckwiller assists counties in managing and complying with FOIA requests and the Open Meetings Act, regularly drafting policies and supporting CEFP management, facilitating the closure and consolidation process. She guides clients through OCR and Title IX investigations and is versed in ADA compliance.
“The board is excited to welcome Mrs. Tuckwiller and believes that her experience in educational law and her love for southern West Virginia will be a great asset to the University,” Concord University Board of Governors Chair Santina St. John said.
Prior to rejoining Dinsmore in 2021, Tuckwiller spent seven years as counsel to the West Virginia Board of Education and West Virginia Department of Education, which is experience she leverages to meet her clients’ needs. Among her responsibilities, she managed the state superintendent’s licensure proceedings and conducted all facets of personnel management for state managed education entities.
She is an alumna of Roanoke College and West Virginia University College of Law.
