New public art installation open at Delmonte Market

PRESS RELEASE

Downtown Elkins is home to yet another new piece of public art. Local artist Nevada Tribble installed a new art piece outside the Delmonte Market and Crossing Coffee Bar.

The installation is titled “Patchwork Sky” and features a colorful handmade canopy. “It’s woven and crocheted with colorful paracord and deep-sea fishing line, so it will be durable outside for years to come,” Tribble explained. “I hope viewers will take a moment to look up and notice the sky through the open patches in the art piece”.

The piece is part of Tribble’s “Department of Daydreams” series of immersive public art experiences in downtown Elkins. The Department of Daydreams began as a series of temporary installations and now features two permanent locations which are free and open to the public, including “Frost” located inside Double Knee Vintage at 214 Davis Avenue.

The project began with a grant from the West Virginia Department of Tourism, with Elkins-Randolph County Tourism Convention and Visitor Bureau serving as a fiscal agent for the application. “We’re so excited to see yet another original piece of public art just blocks away from other recent installations like the murals inside the Railyard Event & Conference Center and the canoe kiosk on Railroad Avenue, which all create even more ways to experience the arts in Randolph County,” said Ben Duvall-Irwin, Marketing Director with Elkins-Randolph County Tourism.
