Pro Wrestling Conquest reaches ‘A New Level’ with banger in Kanawha City

By Matthew Young, RealWV

RealWV’s Junior Editor Nathan had the opportunity to see his first live professional wrestling show Friday night. He served as our photographer for the evening, that is when he wasn’t chasing after the wrestlers to get their autographs. Also, he left me holding the bag on his $10 debt to multi-time deathmatch champion Nick Gage, because clearly that’s a guy you wanna owe money to.

Anyway, the show in question, Pro Wrestling Conquest’s “A New Level” at the Quantum Sports Center in Kanawha City, did not disappoint. There was intrigue, suspense, new champions crowned, flying chairs, flying people, and a whole lot of happy fans – Junior Editor Nathan included.

In the surprise of the night, West Virginia’s own Mika came up short in her quest to become the first ever Pro Wrestling Conquest Women’s Champion, before viciously attacking eventual winner and new champion Dani Mo after the match. The reaction to Mika’s assault was mixed – some fans encouraged Mika’s dastardly actions, while others were left in stunned silence. Either way, Dani Mo left with the belt, and Mika left with what would seem to be a very different attitude.

TME successfully defended their Pro Wrestling Conquest tag team championships, albeit in dramatic fashion, against Derek Dillinger and Wes Barkley. Initially it seemed as though Dillinger and Barkley had dethroned the champions until it was revealed that they had cheated to score the victory. The match was restarted, and the champs righted the injustice.

In other action, Huffmanly handled business in his match against Nick Hamrick, “The Gavel” David Lawless scored a surprising victory over local favorite Troy Parker, and the team of Casey King, Dalton McKenzie, and Jack Vaughn bested NWA Television Champion Carson Drake and The Troublemakers before taking several victory laps to the tune of “Freebird.”

In a chaotic, crowd-pleasing brawl that could barely be contained within the arena much less the ring, Imperial Champion Facade retained his title against Beastman, Shane Mercer, and Matthew Justice.

And then there was Charleston’s own Bishop Baylor in a hardcore match with the aforementioned multi-time deathmatch champion, Nick Gage. That one was cool to see. I interviewed Baylor a few years back, and at that time he spoke about hoping to one day get the chance to test himself against Nick Gage. And though my guy Bishop came up just a little bit short, he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he belonged in the ring with an international legend like Nick Gage – so much so that Gage himself said after the match that he wants to tag with Baylor and go after TME’s tag team titles. One can only hope that happens…

Oh and in case you were wondering, my absolute new best friend – and the best professional wrestler who ever lived – hooked me up with the ten bones so Gage wouldn’t wrap me in barb wire and throw me through a table. Thanks a bunch new best friend Jack! And I’m not just saying that thing about you being the best professional wrestler because you quite possibly saved my life.

Make sure to check out  Pro Wrestling Conquest on Facebook to stay up to date on future shows. They are unquestionably one of the best independent wrestling promotions in the country, and they’re right here in West Virginia. Best of all, they’re Junior Editor Nathan-approved, who, as I write this, is snug in his bed dreaming about pile drivers and chair shots.
