FDA halts mammography at Greenbrier Clinic

By Stephen Baldwin, RealWV

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV — In a letter to patients dated March 23, Dr. Henry Setliff told patients that the Food & Drug Administration ordered The Greenbrier Clinic to stop performing mammography on February 26, 2026. The letter was sent via certified mail to all patients who received a mammogram at the clinic between October 28, 2023, and February 26, 2026.

(Numerous patients shared the letter with RealWV, but due to those letters containing personal and medical information they have not been printed here publicly.)

A specific reason for the closure was not discussed in the letter, but Dr. Setliff did explain, “The FDA determined that we failed to meet the clinical image quality standards established by our facility’s accreditation body, the American College of Radiology, as required by the FDA.”

As a result of “serious concern about the quality of the mammography” the clinic provided to patients, the FDA required the clinic to “notify all affected patients about this problem.” Setliff’s letter says that this does not necessarily mean that patients were given inaccurate test results, but all patients who received a mammography at the Greenbrier Clinic during the time period in question are encouraged to consult their physician and determine whether a repeat mammogram is needed.

“The Greenbrier Clinic Inc. plans to take the necessary steps to become operational again after we have completed all the required actions to the satisfaction of the FDA and our accreditation body,” Setliff’s letter said.

A request for comment to the Director of Public Relations at The Greenbrier, Cam Huffman, was not returned.

It’s unknown how many patients were affected, what caused the non-compliance, or when the clinic expects to be operational in mammography again.

Reached for comment, the Department of Health & Human Services said, “The FDA does not discuss possible or ongoing compliance matters except with the facility involved.”

They referred RealWV to their website for any completed reports on facilities which face compliance issues, but that website has not been updated since 2024. The Greenbrier Clinic does not appear on the list.

The Greenbrier Clinic is part of The Greenbrier Resort located in White Sulphur Springs, WV, and owned by the Justice Companies. Their website says, “Located in The Greenbrier Resort, The Greenbrier Clinic helps patients stay ahead of their health as the country’s only healthcare facility that combines a full-service diagnostic clinic and ambulatory surgery center with a comprehensive family care practice and world-renowned medspa.”
