NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University sophomore Tia Titi has been named the Sun Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.

Titi had a weekend to remember, going 6-for-11 from the plate with three home runs – one each day – in Marshall’s sweep over App State. The Sun Belt Conference-leading Herd had 10 home runs and 25 RBI over the three days, both led by Titi. The sophomore’s three homers and six RBI each co-led the team over the weekend, her 18 total bases led the team as well.

Tia’s home run in the series opener Thursday was part of a 2-for-3 day with a double. Her home run Friday was the game-ending home run in the 6th to finish off the team’s 12-4 victory, she recorded a triple as well in the middle game of the series. In the finale Saturday, Titi’s three-run shot capped a seven-run frame for the Herd, helping the team to break a 4-4 tie in the process.

The breakout weekend for the sophomore designated player is part of what has Coach Morgan Zerkle’s Herd leading the SBC and at its highest-ever spot (25) in the NCAA RPI. The Herd has nine players with three or more home runs this season.

“Tia is a prime example of someone staying the course, continuing to work & now having a huge weekend,” said Coach Zerkle.

Marshall faces Pitt Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Dot Hicks Field before returning to league play against Coastal Carolina in Conway.
