New music venue opens in Lewisburg on Saturday

LEWISBURG W.Va. —This weekend marks a new beginning for Lewisburg’s live music scene. On Saturday, Aug. 1, The Third Floor Rock Hall is hosting its grand opening performance: a rock show featuring Aittala, with support from local band UH. Together, the bands are bringing metal music to Lewisburg on Saturday night. 

Owned by Tammy Showell, The Third Floor Rock Hall is a music venue that aims to attract new artistic talent to Lewisburg while also featuring local musicians.

Showell, a multi-instrumentalist who started gigging at age 18, has dreamed of opening The Third Floor Rock Hall for many years. Tired of traveling to see concerts and hoping to enhance her local music scene, Showell saw a need for a music venue in the area and brought it to fruition. 

Located at 860 Court St. North, the rock hall is a dedicated musical space in downtown Lewisburg with impressive acoustics and an intimate, “elevated gothic” feel. Additionally, the venue accommodates its musicians by covering their food and housing costs. The venue is connected to an apartment that sleeps eight. 

“Musicians bring themselves here, and we take care of the rest. They just plug and play,” Showell said. “It scratches an itch of what I wanted back when I was gigging.”

Though the venue’s opening show is headlined by a metal band, Showell has no intentions of limiting the venue’s musical reach to just metal or punk: the venue will host musicians of all rock subgenres. The third floor rock hall also intends to give opportunities to any local artists who can bring their talents to the performance space— photographers, videographers, sound engineers, and more. By employing local artists, the Third Floor Rock Hall hopes to help meet the needs of all kinds of artists in the community, musical or otherwise.
