William Vest takes oath of office

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — William J. “Bill” Vest became the newest member of the House of Delegates when he took the oath of office Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Vest, an Oak Hill resident, was appointed the previous day to fill the vacant 50th District seat, which covers a portion of Fayette County. House Clerk Jeff Pack administered the oath of office as Vest’s wife, Carol, held a Bible.

“I have heard the concerns of people in my county, and I hope to serve them in a professional way,” the new Delegate said.

Vest retired from a career in the West Virginia correctional system, which included the role of Acting Administrator/Superintendent of the Beckley Correctional Center, Deputy Warden and Associate Warden of Security at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex. Vest also spent time as a correctional officer, hospital security officer and a Military Police officer in the U.S. Army. He is active with the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

His committee assignments and contact information will be listed on the West Virginia Legislature’s website at a later date.
