“Finally!” said Erin Bowes.
“Amazing!” said Kennedy Black.
“Beautiful setup,” said John Gillespie.

These were the reviews offered by locals who previewed White Sulphur’s newest restaurant over the weekend. Max on Main held a soft opening to test their systems and allow folks a bite of their culinary delights.

“It feels good!” said owner Ken Santmyer, whose grandfather opened the very first Gino’s Pizzeria & Spaghetti House in 1961. “Now I can get out of the construction business and back to what I know, the restaurant business.” Max on Main was two years in the making for Ken and his team.
I dined with my family on the patio at Max’s over the weekend. Here’s a sampling of what we ate:

The menu includes an assortment of price ranges, with pizzas starting at $12, entrees in the $20-$30 range, and Mountain Steer steaks for $40-$45.
Max’s includes three dining areas–bar seating with a television, table seating inside, and table seating outside on the patio. All of the patio tables are under umbrellas, and more folks can sit outside than inside. An open garage door by the bar serves as the gateway between all the dining areas, with a large kitchen in the back.

Ample staff provided terrific service to customers, who raved about everything from the decor to the food to the vibe.
Max on Main officially opens Tuesday. It is located on Main Street in downtown White Sulphur Springs. Parking is available on the street and behind the restaurant (accessed beside the patio).
