Charleston native Sierra Ferrell wins four Grammys

By RealWV staff,

Sierra Ferrell’s latest album came with a prophetic opening track–“American Dreaming.” The independent roots artist said of the struggle to balance living a good life in a world dominated by consumerism, “Sometimes when you’re working long and hard to try to live that American dream, you forget what you’re doing it for.”

That track and the album overall struck a chord with audiences and critics alike, earning her four Grammys over the weekend.

Ferrell won Grammys for Best Americana Album (Trail of Flowers), Best American Roots Song (“American Dreaming” with co-writer Melody Walker), Best Americana Performance (“American Dreaming”), and Best American Roots Performance for “Lighthouse.”

Speaking on stage while wearing an ornate white dress with a scepter in hand, she began, “Honestly, this is kinda hilarious.” She then went on to thank God, her mother, and her team.

“Don’t forget to say your prayers…there’s a lot of darkness going on. It’s good to be singing songs to help people get through stuff. I love you all!”
