Benjamin Hatfield loses his law license
By RealWV staff,
In a filing on Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia ordered that Benjamin Hatfield’s license to practice law be “anulled by voluntary consent.”
The order came in response to a petition by the Office of Lawyer Disciplinary Counsel recommending annulment. Hatfield consented to it, and the Court agreed as well.
State code provides for two remedies when a lawyer violates the law or ethics of their position–suspension or annulment of their law license. Annulment means Hatfield will no longer be eligible to practice law in West Virginia.
Hatfield resigned as Raleigh County Prosecutor in late October 2024 after multiple alleged professional indiscretions which led to local, state, and federal investigations. Tom Truman was named by the Raleigh County Commission as Interim Prosecutor in Hatfield’s place.
