Hatfield posts $5,000 bond on felony charge

A warrant was issued on Monday for former Raleigh County Prosecutor Benjamin Hatfield. The warrant was for one felony count of “intimidation of and retaliation against public officers and witnesses.”
After resigning last year, Hatfield had his law license annulled by the WV Supreme Court in early 2025. He was accused of multiple alleged professional indiscretions which led to local, state, and federal investigations. Victims said that Hatfield exchanged sexual favors for dismissing charges and held employees against their will.
Today, bond was set for $5,000 related to the latest charge and it was posted by Hatfield today. The felony charge which carries a minimum sentence of one year in jail. The maximum sentence is 10 years and $2,000 in fines.
This is the third time Hatfield has appeared in Raleigh County Magistrate Court this year. On February 13, he faced a misdemeanor charge for violating a protective order. A $1,500 bond was posted and a pre-trial hearing is set for October 3, 2025. On June 21, Hatfield faced another misdemeanor charge for violating a domestic violence protective order. A $2,500 bond was posted and a pre-trial hearing is set for November 13, 2025. A hearing date for the latest felony charge of witness intimidation has yet to be set.
