Mike Dotson
In sports lingo, Mike Dotson is “a glue guy.” He puts the team first. He does all the little things. And he builds a culture that others want to follow.
Yes, you’ve probably heard about Mike’s recent recognition as AAA Coach of the Year in West Virginia for high school girl’s soccer. It’s an honor he deserves, for his countless hours devoted to the Greenbrier East High School soccer program. He led the charge to build a new field with community support, which he continues to maintain as he continues to coach, even after his own kids are in college. He’s built a program that is successful on and–more importantly to Mike–off the field. His disciplined, consistent, and clear approach to coaching is focused on building good citizens, who also happen to excel athletically.
But you may not know that Mike’s “a glue guy” in the rest of his life as well. As the Chief Operating Officer for Brier Properties, he oversees multiple hotels in the Greenbrier Valley, which welcome tourists and guests from across the world. He is also an active trustee at Ronceverte Presbyterian Church, where he serves as a worship leader, officer, and mission volunteer regularly.

A native of Beckley, Mike graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before going on to West Virginia University. In Morgantown, he met his future wife, Alyson, and they have three kids–Emma, Noah, and Caroline.
In typical “glue guy” fashion, Mike will be the first one to give credit to his family, his team, his co-workers, and his community for this recognition. Duly noted, sir. But for showing up each and every day in the community, with a smile and a handshake, ready to make a positive difference alongside others, we are proud to name Mike Dotson as the certified Real West Virginian of the Week. Thanks for all you do to lead by example, Coach Dotson!
