Brand takes the lead at WV Amateur

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV — The state’s top amateur golfers endured two days of rain over the holiday weekend at the famed Greenbrier Resort. But it didn’t keep them from going low on The Meadows and Old White courses.

Former champion Christian Brand holds a four-shot lead at 7 under par, after shooting 67-66 in difficult conditions. Tanner Vest sits in second place at 3 under par after firing rounds of 68 and 69.

In total, 120 players qualified to make the trip to The Greenbrier. Fifty golfers made the cut, which fell at 13 over par this year.

In round one, golfers competed on The Meadows course, which played over 6,600 yards and saw an average score of nearly 77. Then in round two, golfers moved to The Old White course, which played nearly 6,900 yards and saw an average score of just over 78.

All those who made the cut will be back on the course again Tuesday and Wednesday. The leaders are scheduled to tee off in the afternoon. Stay tuned for updates.
