WVU Tech battles IU Southeast at Van Meter

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech volleyball stayed within striking distance throughout the final two sets Friday night before Indiana University Southeast earned a 3-0 decision at Van Meter Gym.

The Golden Bears (0-20, 0-7) fell 25-17, 25-20, 25-20. After the opening set, Tech settled in and battled through a pair of competitive frames, with the second featuring four ties and the third including five ties and two lead changes.

Ivana Burgos anchored the Golden Bear defense with 22 digs in three sets, an average of 7.33 per set, while also recording Tech’s lone service ace.

Aniston Treadway led the attack with eight kills on 25 swings and added seven digs. Freshman Maura O’Niell followed with six kills while hitting .154.

At the net, Eden Miller turned in a strong defensive effort with three solo blocks while adding a kill. Emerson Young added a kill on four attempts in two sets.

Addison White handed out 10 assists and added four digs and two kills. Anaís González contributed three assists in one set, while Blanca Marbà de Sivatte collected six digs.

WVU Tech finished with 19 kills, 19 assists, 50 digs, three solo blocks and a service ace while hitting .074. The Golden Bears committed just 12 attack errors, matching their season low first recorded Aug. 25 at Bluefield.

What’s next

WVU Tech returns to Van Meter Gym Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Golden Bears host Indiana University Columbus at noon.
