Carnegie Hall features artist Carly Thaw in the Old Stone Room
PRESS RELEASE

Lewisburg, West Virginia – Carnegie Hall is pleased to present Carly Thaw as the featured artist in the Old Stone Room located on the ground floor. A visual artist and illustrator based in Fayetteville, West Virginia, Thaw creates dynamic, intricately layered works shaped by the science and mathematics at the core of ecology and Earth’s living systems. Her exhibition is free and open to the public through October 30, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thaw’s studio practice blends original drawing and painting techniques with a deep curiosity about the natural world. Inspired by the patterns found in nature, she uses detailed mark making, vibrant color, and rhythmic pattern‑building to create illustrations that evoke optical vibration and an immersive sensory experience. Her work reflects the scientific principles that govern natural forms while exploring human relationships to nature and ecological time – particularly in the context of the current climate crisis.
Her artwork has been exhibited in West Virginia, Montana, Washington, and British Columbia, demonstrating the broad reach of her visual language. In addition to her studio practice, Thaw maintains a published illustration career focused on science communication and narrative imagery, bringing clarity, emotion, and accessibility to complex ecological ideas.
Thaw holds an MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (2025) and a BA in Graphic Design from American University (2018), grounding her work in both rigorous academic study and an intuitive, exploratory approach to image‑making.
Carly Thaw’s exhibition in the Old Stone Room invites viewers to experience the interplay of science, imagination, and sensory perception through her distinctive visual storytelling.
Carnegie Hall programs are presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
