Greenbrier Commission sets public hearing dates for zoning ordinance, tables GigReady Broadband discussion
LEWISBURG, W.Va. – The Greenbrier County Commission, on Tuesday, set dates of Tuesday, March 3 at 6p.m., and Wednesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. to hold their required public hearings to receive input on the recommended updated public zoning ordinance. State code requires that one hearing be held during the daytime and one held during the evening. Should any substantive changes be made to the proposal, a third public hearing will be held.
Next before the commission was the consideration of a change order for the County 911 Tower Maintenance and Technical Support, for which commissioners chose to hear County Attorney Britt Ludwig’s recommendations in executive session. Upon reconvening, Commissioner Richie Holliday moved that the change order not be approved due to “improper subject matter.”
“In lieu of that,” Holliday said, “I would like to make a motion to issue an RFP (Request For Proposal) to solicit bids to cover the subject matter of the proposed change order, to be expedited.”
Holliday’s motion was approved with no further discussion.
Commissioners then moved on to consideration of financial matters pertaining to current county projects. Joining the meeting via Zoom to discuss the payment resolution associated with PSD 2 phase 2 Waterline Extension Project was Region 4 Project Specialist Amanda Smarr, who said, “This total amount requested for the overall resolution is $613,763.23.”
“Of that amount, the amount requested from the commission – which would be toward the invoice from the Thrasher Group- would be $75,075.30,” Smart added.
After approving payment of the $75,075.30, and at Smarr’s request, commissioners tabled consideration of draw request #18 for the County GigReady Broadband Project. However, consideration of engineering amendment #1, which seeks to increase the total cost by $75,000, making the overall total $1,400,500.
According to Smarr, “They [engineers] have explained this as for additional work they feel is going to be needed in relation to completing the project itself.”
Smarr then recommended that commissioners wait until all bids are received, before approving the amendment – a recommendation which commissioners accepted before also tabling the request.
In other business, commissioners approved the Sheriff Department’s Drunk Driving Prevention Grant application for the period of Feb. 23, 2026 through May 26, 2026. The amount of the grant is $5,000, and will be used for DUI checkpoints.
The next regular meeting of the Greenbrier County Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.
