Robert C. Byrd Clinic’s DELM program celebrates one-year milestone with continued growth and community impact
PRESS RELEASE
LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Robert C. Byrd Clinic’s (RCBC) Diabetes Education and Lifestyle Medicine (DELM) program is celebrating its one-year anniversary with remarkable growth, expanding community impact, and continued national recognition.
Since launching, the DELM program has helped hundreds of individuals across the Greenbrier Valley take control of their health through personalized diabetes education, nutrition support, and lifestyle medicine services. Under the leadership of Amy Jasperse, RPh, CDCES, CCMS, director of the center, the program has served over 620 patients and received 167 new referrals in just one year.
The milestone reflects the growing demand for accessible, compassionate, and practical healthcare support focused on long-term wellness and chronic disease management.
“DELM has become more than an education center — it has become a place where patients feel supported, empowered, and truly seen,” Jasperse said. “Our mission has always been to bridge the gap between medical care and everyday life. Our hope is to help people turn knowledge into practical, sustainable habits that improve health and quality of life.”
The DELM program combines medical guidance with hands-on education to help patients better understand diabetes management and sustainable lifestyle changes. Services include diabetes education, culinary medicine education, grocery tours, medication therapy management, and lifestyle medicine counseling designed to support healthier daily living.
“I am incredibly grateful for the trust that patients and providers have placed in DELM,” Jasperse said. “The growth in referrals over the past year reflects the increasing need for personalized, lifestyle-focused care in our region.”
Patients participating in the program receive individualized support that focuses not only on managing diabetes, but also on preventing complications, improving overall wellness, and building healthier habits for the future. “One of the most rewarding parts of this work is seeing patients realize that small, manageable changes can truly make a difference in their health,” Jasperse said.
DELM is not only for individuals living with diabetes, but also for anyone interested in improving their overall health through nutrition, education, and sustainable lifestyle changes. The program’s community-based approach has also contributed to its success, particularly through interactive educational experiences designed to make healthy living more approachable.
“The continued success of our grocery tours has shown us how powerful it can be to meet patients where they are and teach skills in an approachable, community-based setting,” Jasperse said. “Recent growth has demonstrated that patients are looking for more than prescriptions alone — they want guidance, encouragement, and tools they can use every day.”
As the program marks its first anniversary, DELM has also successfully maintained its accreditation through the Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP), awarded by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES). The reaccreditation reaffirms the clinic’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in diabetes education and patient care.
“As we celebrate DELM’s one-year anniversary, we remain committed to expanding access to diabetes education, culinary medicine, and lifestyle medicine services throughout our community,” Jasperse said. Robert C. Byrd Clinic continues to expand preventive healthcare services while helping individuals throughout the region live healthier, fuller lives.
