The narrative surrounding young people who leave West Virginia for urban settings to find work sometimes overshadows those who choose to return home. This summer, Dr. Tyler Freeman chose to return home and practice medicine.
After starring in football, track, and cheerleading at Greenbrier East, in addition to excelling academically, Tyler attended Marshall University for undergraduate work. He then gained his MD from Marshall’s Medical School.
With training in family medicine, sports medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, and chronic disease, he hopes to use his skills to give back to an area that gave him so much as a young person. He is practicing family medicine for CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center – Primary Care.
Tyler moved home this summer with Ashley, his high school sweetheart, and their son, Graham.
For his dedication to public health across West Virginia and his commitment to coming home to care for those who cared for him, we are proud to name Dr. Tyler Freeman as The Real West Virginian of the Week.
