WV Interscholastic Cycling League announces 2025 season schedule
The West Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League (WVICL) has announced their full 2025 season schedule. The schedule includes all races, and other important dates.

April 1: PitZone registration opens
May 2 – 4: Coach’s Retreat, Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center
The Coach Retreat will arm you with the knowledge, skills and resources available to assist you in establishing a composite team, or even becoming a more involved coach for an existing team.
The West Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League’s 8th annual Coach Retreat will bring together coaches —both new and experienced— to develop skills and knowledge, share strategies, and build community. In 2025 WVICL will head into its eight year and will be providing the opportunity for every Middle and High School, public or private, to form club teams and participate in a scholastic mountain bike season brought to you by the West Virginia league, an official project League of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). This conference will promote a holistic approch to coaching that creates an environment in which young people can grow and thrive.
The Coach Retreat will arm you with the knowledge, skills and resources available to assist you in establishing a composite team, or even becoming a more involved coach for an existing team. With over 1,000 NICA teams across 30 Leagues in 28 States in the US, we don’t have to reinvent any wheels in West Virginia. Currently over 22,000 Student-Athletes participate in Leagues across the country with League growth averaging 35% every year, this is an exciting time for kids and adult mentors in West Virginia to be apart of the fastest growing youth mountain bike program in the US.
For those who are part of an already established team, the Coach Retreat will provide the oppurtunity to continue learning and growing as coaches and mentors, while also providing the oppurtunity to earn continued education credits and the necessary components to achieve a higher coaching level.
Team formation is happening right now, and official team, and coach registration will start March 1. Pre-season begins Apri 1st, and in season practices will start July 1st. Our eighth racing season will run from late August through early November with race venues located across the state.

June 4 – 8: GRiT Camp, Big Bear Lake
The West Virginia NICA league is thrilled to be offering this event for a sixth year to help get more girls on bikes and to have a blast with new and old friends. Camp is led by an outstanding crew of NICA coaches that love to bike and guide every rider to improve. Join us in a safe, non-competitive environment to develop skills, confidence, health, fitness, and FUN! There will be five days and four nights of girl-powered camp activities: bonfires with s’mores and songs, homemade food, tie-dye t-shirt making, games, swimming, laughs, and lots of ladies on pedals! All skill levels are welcome.
July 1: Team pictures begin
July 25 – 27: Adventure Weekend, Location TBD
For the first time, the West Virginia NICA league will be having a non-race weekend all focused on adventure. More details coming soon.
August 23 – 24: Rally in the Valley, Canaan Valley State Park
This season’s opener race format will be a time trial.
The time trail format will give our athletes the chance to get their legs and lungs warmed up for a great race season. The course will dive into the single track right out of the gate. Then, it’s a roller coaster ride on purpose built trails through the beautiful meadows and hardwoods surrounding Canaan Valley Resort. Plenty of passing opportunities open up on this course as racers alternate between single track and double track all while giving spectators plenty of chances to cheer on their favorite racers. Plan to spend the rest of the weekend riding the trails at this incredible resort destination mountain bike heaven!

September 6 – 7: Battle at Big Bear, Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake Camplands will host race #2 of the 2025 Season. Athletes will line up on the old “air strip” and sprint a long straightaway before disappearing into the woods among the gigantic ferns that make up the forest floor. This course is a mix of fast open double track, twisty singletrack, and just enough technical features to keep riders on their toes. If you like racing in the rocks, this course will not disappoint! Big Bear Lake is known for their great xc trails, so make sure you plan to spend some of your weekend riding the trails at this incredible mountain bike paradise!
September 20 – 21: Defend the Bend, North Bend State Park
North Bend State Park will host race #3 of the 2022 season. Found among the Mid-Ohio Valley’s rolling hills, lakes and streams, North Bend State Park offers a multitude of recreational facilities in a beautiful setting. Named for the horseshoe curve of the North Fork of the Hughes River, this year-round park is lush with hiking trails and abundant wildlife. Located near Cairo and Harrisville, North Bend State Park is best known for the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail, which follows a railbanked B&O Railroad corridor with several tunnels along the way. This is a course that offers something for everyone! Tough climbs, flowy open singletrack, grassy meadows, and true West Virginia woods. It’s also great for spectating, so be sure to bring your binoculars!
October 4 – 5: Shred the Summit, Summit Bechtel Reserve
