Save the date — Aug. 23 — for 38th annual Athens-Concord Town Social

PRESS RELEASE

ATHENS, WV – Mark your calendars for the Athens-Concord Town Social on Sunday, Aug. 23, 1-4 p.m. Previously  scheduled to coincide with Concord University’s freshmen orientation, this year’s social is set a week later to allow  more student participation and avoid potential scheduling conflicts with other local events.

Food vendors, community groups, businesses, artists, Concord University organizations, and Athens High School  reunion classes are all invited and enthusiastically encouraged to gather on the University’s front lawn to mark the  38th anniversary of the area tradition.

Anna Hardy, chair of the Town Social Committee, and chief student affairs officer and dean of students at CU, said of the event, “We are elated to invite everyone to the annual Athens-Concord Town Social on Sunday, Aug. 23.  This event is a wonderful opportunity to unite our students and the town, creating a sense of community  and camaraderie. With craft and food vendors, a variety of activities, and live music from The Allen Smith Band and  The Pubknockers, it’s set to be an exciting day for people of all ages. We look forward to celebrating with you and  strengthening the bond between Concord University and the Athens community.”

Classic car enthusiasts will show off their prized automobiles at the social’s car show taking place from noon until  3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded, including The President’s Choice award, presented by CU President Bethany  Meighen. A much-anticipated annual tradition, the car show grows each year. Registration for the car show will  take place from 11 a.m. to noon, on-site only.

This year’s social will be dedicated to the memory of Concord alumnus, longtime public information director, and  former public address announcer, William T. “Tom” Bone III, who passed away Oct. 20, 2025. Bone was also a  longtime ACTS volunteer, who often appeared at the event as a clown and/or cartoonist.

Online vendor registration is up and running. Any vendor looking to learn more about the social or sign up to  participate may do so at Vendor Registration. Follow the Athens-Concord Town Social Facebook event page Here for updates.
