Carnegie Hall presents ‘The Land of Snows: An Intro to Tibet’

Lewisburg, West Virginia – Carnegie Hall is pleased to present a free public lecture, “The Land of Snows: An Introduction to Tibet’s Rich Spiritual Culture and Sacred Arts,” on Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Auditorium.

Offered as part of The Mystical Arts of Tibet residency, this one‑hour program provides audiences with a rare opportunity to explore the philosophical and cultural foundations that shape Tibet’s sacred traditions. Drawing on centuries of spiritual practice, the lecture introduces key elements of Tibetan history, Buddhist philosophy, contemplative psychology, ritual art, and meditative discipline—illuminating the worldview that informs the monks’ music, movement, and artistic expression throughout the week.

Designed to deepen the community’s engagement with the residency, the lecture offers essential context for the sacred arts on display, including the creation of the Mandala Sand Painting and the monks’ multiphonic chanting rituals. Attendees will gain insight into the symbolism embedded in Tibetan artistic forms, the purpose of ritual in daily monastic life, and the ways in which these traditions have been preserved and passed down through generations.

Open to all and offered at no charge, the evening invites audiences to step beyond observation and into understanding, enriching their experience of the Mystical Arts of Tibet with a thoughtful exploration of the culture that sustains it.
