Carnegie Hall presents Board Room exhibition featuring artist Norma Jean Heim

PRESS RELEASE

“Northern Hike” by Norma Jean Heim

Lewisburg, West Virginia – Carnegie Hall is pleased to showcase the work of Norma Jean Heim in the Board Room Gallery, located on the first floor adjacent to the auditorium. Heim’s exhibition highlights her evolving mixed‑media practice, shaped by decades of experience in both fine art and professional visual communication. The display is free and open to the public through October 30, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Heim holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland and an MA in Media from California State University Long Beach. Her distinguished career includes serving as Art Director at Northrop Aircraft, Advertising Art Director for The Washington Post, and Vice President of Communications & Marketing at West Point, USMA. Throughout her professional life, she continued to create artwork, exhibiting in galleries across northern and southern California during her early career. After raising her children, she returned to exhibiting on the East Coast, bringing with her a broadened perspective and a refined artistic voice.

Her work has evolved significantly over the years, spanning multiple styles and mediums. Originally focused on acrylic painting, Heim later expanded into mixed media, developing a unique method of combining materials through experimentation and intuition. Her pieces often explore color, texture, and the expressive potential of vintage materials she uses to transform conceptual ideas into tangible works of art.

In her artistic statement, Heim reflects: “I enjoy working with color, textures and vintage materials to portray a concept that has evolved in my mind until it is ready to become a physical piece of artwork.” This philosophy is evident throughout her exhibition, where each piece invites viewers into a richly layered visual experience.

Norma Jean Heim’s work is on view now in Carnegie Hall’s Board Room Gallery. Visitors are encouraged to explore this intimate and thoughtfully curated exhibition during regular gallery hours.

Carnegie Hall programs are presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
