MAXWELTON, W.Va — Republicans Lowell Rose and Matt Ford are both running unopposed for separate seats on the Greenbrier County Commission. Rose is running for a third straight six-year term and Ford is running to fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner Tammy Tincher.
Both Rose and Ford accepted invitations in September to participate in a community forum last night in Maxwelton. Neither came.
Ford sent a text message the day before the event saying he would not be there. Rose did not make contact.
The forum was intended to give candidates an opportunity to address several issues affecting Greenbrier County, including the proposed Sportsplex near the landfill, data centers, local versus legislative control, business closings in the Greenbrier Valley, and traffic concerns. Candidates also would have been asked whether they intended to serve their full terms if elected.
The General Election is November 3. Early voting is underway now.
