Beth Smailes

Earlier this year, RealWV featured Beth Smailes as she opened the Rainelle Deli & Marketplace. It was clear she was a go-getter with big plans for her community, but her impact in year one was even bigger than we imagined.

As one example of her community service, Beth fed the hungry out of her store for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She served several hundred people each time. She partnered with Seneca Health Services, the Rainelle Moose Lodge, and the Greenbrier County Deputy Sheriff’s Association last week to feed folks at Christmas.

Several folks wrote to RealWV expressing their appreciation for Beth’s leadership and wonderful cooking, which allowed them and their neighbors to enjoy a good meal on Christmas at no cost. It was clear to us how much the meals meant to the community, and it was no surprise to see Beth right in the middle.

For leading by example, feeding her neighbors, and brightening the holidays in the Meadow River Valley, we are proud to name Beth Smailes at the certified Real West Virginian of the Week.
