2024 Primary Election: U.S. Senate
By RealWV Staff,
The impending retirement of Democrat Joe Manchin has seen the nation turn its attention to West Virginia, as both Republican heavyweights and Democratic upstarts look to claim his seat in the United States Senate.
Since officially announcing his candidacy last year, current State Governor Jim Justice has polled well ahead of the crowded field of Republican challengers. However, Congressman Alex Mooney is campaigning on the belief that his flavor of conservatism is more palatable to the party base.
On the Democratic side of the ballot, while new party member Don Blankenship has the name recognition, that may do more harm than good. The nomination looks to be a horse race between Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliot, and political outsider Zach Shrewsbury.
